What are swaps?
The swap is the currencies interest rates differential that traders pay or earn on any trades carried out on a day-to-day basis. For example, let's say that you are long on the AUD/USD pair. This means you will receive interest on the AUD and pay interest on the USD. If AUD has a higher interest rate than the USD then you will receive an interest payment (SWAP). If AUD has a lower interest rate than USD you will pay an interest payment (SWAP). If you check the SWAP column in your account history you will most likely find that you have had numerous positive and negative SWAPS for all trades held overnight.
